Anthony Rianda (b. 1985, Los Gatos, CA)

I am a self-taught artist, mainly a painter, interested in popular culture high and low. I seek to find a connection that spans all time, from cave paintings until now. I think every artist is a product of their environment in some way. My environment has primarily existed of a sea of Television and the Internet. But of course, some things have always been the same. So instead of ancient Greek Olympians, or Roman gladiators, I choose to depict the icons of our time, heroes and gods combined: professional athletes.

Born in the Bay Area of California, I feel a natural inclination to follow the great artists of the Bay Area School, such as Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Wayne Thiebaud, Mel Ramos and Joan Brown. They all had their own special but still somewhat united way of representing the world around them. I admire the masterful quality of the paint handling, which is painterly and confident, leaving viewers with a visual experience unlike anything else oil paint can offer.

I currently live and work in Los Angeles, California.
